Google’s webmaster tools provide ” statistics, diagnostics and management of Google’s indexing of your website”. Providing a sitemap to Google is an important part of the webmaster tools, so I decided to get that in place.

I tried using the FAQs on 1&1’s website, but it was way too complicated for me. What’s a fella to do? Surely there are others lacking the techie skills?

My fall back position is always searching the web. So I did. Lo and behold, I found a JAVA-based crawler that builds the same sitemap, but is much more newbie friendly. The tool is Google Sitemap Generator.

The instructions are pretty straightforward. It took me about five minutes and I had the sitemap loaded to Google. If anyone recommends other tools for generating sitemaps, please post them in the comments.

Now if I can just get Google to index my site!
