One of the first things I did when starting my internet business was research. I wanted to know what successful business models others use and how to implement them. I was quickly overwhelmed. The internet is flooded with people who want to tell you how they made money on the internet. The web is also loaded with tons of great information about everything.
I had to narrow the scope of what I was reading to avoid losing my mind (and my motivation). As I’ve previously mentioned, Rosalind Gardner and Jeremy Palmer got the nod as they are both wildly successful affiliates, and their approach lacks the hype that many others use. I also decided to focus on getting started and learning as I went along rather than learning everything before I start. If I waited to learn “everything”, I would never get started.
It turns out that those were both very good decisions. I now have a niche market I want to focus on, and I know exactly how I want to build and market the site. I had to fight my early impatience, and I’m glad I did. By taking a little more time and learning a little bit more, I think my first endeavor is well thought out. I will surely make mistakes, but I’m avoiding many newbie mistakes before I even start.
Over the next few weeks, I will be building the website. I’ll post here that is complete. Now, if I just knew HTML….
Stay Tuned
