I’ll open with an apology to my readers. My last post was two weeks ago, and it would seem that I’m letting the blog slip a bit. Honestly, I’ve got a limited amount of time, and the overwhelming portion has been spent on niche research and site content development. Which leads me to subject of todays post: does your site have a unique selling proposition?
I thought that was pretty obvious until I started deciding on a niche and deciding what the content would be. I picked an area that I have some expertise in as well as some passion. I then went blazing forward to get site content and outline my unique selling proposition (USP).
The more I pondered having a unique selling proposition, the more I realized that I didn’t. I was thinking about what I thought the customers in this niche would need, but not what they really wanted. Even if I knew what the customer wanted, what did I have to offer that was unique and not provided by other sites?
Back track time.
So, I went to online communities to learn exactly what these customers wanted that they are not getting right now. Now that I know that, my selling proposition is unique because I’ll be providing a solution that the customers want but cannot currently get.
Obviously, this is a bit more work up front than just throwing up a site in a niche and selling some products, services, etc. However, I decided in the beginning that I wanted to build long-term businesses that would over grow and sustain over time.
As a result of all this reflection about USP, I believe I’ve come up with something completely unique that no one in this niche is doing. If the approach is as unique as it appears to be, the site will be a solid first effort in internet marketing.
Stay tuned.
